Time Institute Study Material For Cat Free Download Pdf**To the Editor:** Springfield virus (SFV), a new zoonotic picornavirus in the famil adenoviridae, was recently isolated from a woman with arthritis and influenza-like symptoms in the United States ([@R1]). Since the introduction of SFV into the United States in 1997, nine cases of SFV have been reported in the United States ([@R2],[@R3]); these include 1 case in the state of Washington ([@R2]), 2 cases in Texas ([@R4],[@R5]), 2 cases in Minnesota ([@R6]), 1 case in California ([@R7]), and 3 cases in South Carolina ([@R8]--[@R10]). No cases have been reported in Canada. We describe a new case of SFV infection in a woman from British Columbia. The woman was an 8-month-old girl who was first evaluated at the British Columbia Children's Hospital in Vancouver on August 30, 2006, with an influenza-like illness that was associated with a rash and fainting episodes. She was treated with a 7-day course of amoxicillin and recovered. A month later, she developed a cough; she was seen in clinic on October 27, when fever and palpitations developed. On November 5, a physical examination showed enlarged lymph nodes, and an antinuclear antibody was positive at 1:320. A chest radiograph showed a diffuse increased density in the right upper lung field, which was associated with interstitial infiltration. A CBC was normal, but a hemoglobin level was 11.0 g/dL (reference range, 12.4--15.4 g/dL), and a reticulocyte count was 12,000/µL (reference range, 1,800--5,800/µL). The differential count showed 82% lymphocytes, 5% monocytes, and 13% neutrophils, and total protein was 4.6 g/dL. A chest radiograph was repeated 1 week later, which showed that the diffuse increased density in the right upper lung field had increased and there was a new patch of increased density in the left upper lung field. A diagnosis of a new right upper lobe infiltrate was made, and she was admitted to the hospital. In light of the case we reported and the previously reported cases of SFV infection
